What do the "Pierrots" symbolize?
The Pierrots associated with the Gayelle logo are references to the Pierrots which features in the opening sequence
of the original ‘Gayelle’ (the programme). The Pierrots were designed by Peter Minshall and appeared in his mas’….
The traditional Pierrot grenade was dressed in a robe made of multicoloured strips of cloth, wore a net mask and carried
a stick as a stick fighter but challenged other Pierrots verbally by exchanging elaborate word play in Creole or French patois.
Minshall’s Pierrots were dressed solely in white and were totally silent, communicating only in mime.
Gayelle’s
Pierrots symbolize the tradition of the Gayelle and also of the public contesting by word or action. All we do in Gayelle
must have its roots in our traditions and also allow for the contestation of viewpoints and expression while at the same time
reinterpreting tradition in new ways that are relevant to the present time.

On September 16th, a fourteen-part series called, "FREEDOM TALKS" will be launched
on Gayelle The Channel. "FREEDOM TALKS" is a project that stems from the Freedom Walk, which was a celebration of 20 years drug free of Mr. Errol Fabien Executive Director of Gayelle TV. A telethon was held
on the same day in order to raise funds for the Freedom Walk Foundation where proceeds were to be put towards the creation
of seven documentaries on Drug Prevention. These documentaries would be a permenant contriubtion to drug prevention education
material in schools across Trinidad and Tobago. Unfortunately, pledges from the telethon were not all honoured and as a result
the documentaries are yet to be made.Look out for "FREEDOM TALKS" starting September 16th 2009.

Gayelle TV faces work on "Tribes" Locally shot International Film for MTV
This morning on Cock-A-Doodle-Doo with host, Marcia Henville representatives of the film production
"Tribe" for MTV sat in studio to talk about the process thus far. The film is being done by MTV ignite and The
Staying Alive Foundation, in partnership with Gpange and Uniccef.
(From MTV Staying-Alive.org)
Since it launched in 1998, MTV’s award winning Staying Alive campaign is the world’s largest,
youth focused, HIV and AIDS prevention campaign. The multi-media campaign consists of documentaries, public service announcements,
youth forums and web content produced for young audiences worldwide and available to third party broadcasters rights-free.
The success of Staying Alive is owing to its retained set of core beliefs and values – that change lies
in the hands of young people. If the dynamics of the HIV epidemic are really to alter, then it is imperative that this generation
be informed and empowered.
****
On Gayelle TV's morning show, Sonya Wells
and Lisa Wickham of Ezone spoke about the progress of filming, as well as the different locations in Trinidad and Tobago that
would be used in scenes of the movie. Among these were: San Fernando, Bloody Bay and Woodbrook.
Other familiar
faces are also participating in the "Tribes" project. Recent Dreevay's Next Top Synergistic Soca Model Jospeh Lopez (better known as WEST KANYE) takes the lead role in the film under the direction of Kingston-born Ras Kass. Special Effects
Make-up artist on the project, Steven Taylor is also a familiar Gayelle TV face, who recently worked on Shurwayne winchester's
"YOU" music video, among other projects.
(From http://igniteblog.staying-alive.org/trinidad/)
Kassa himself is now one of the leading directors of Urban Culture of his generation.
His 2005 Directorial
of Damian Marley’s track “Welcome to Jamrock” was an international success with global airplay and
scores of music video award nominations. The video was condemned by Jamaican authorities for depicting a negative image
of the island.
The influence of this gritty docu-style genre opened the flood gates for a tidal wave of music videos
depicting the garrison life. Three years on, the video is still studied in universities, and has over one million plays on
YouTube.
His beliefs as a Rastafarian seep into his cinematic vision, Kassa steers away from popular imagery of “babes,
guns and bling”. Despite this stance he continues to attract mainstream artists, to date, Kassa has directed over 100
music videos, with artists such as Damian Marley, Beenie Man and Sean Paul
Kassa began work with MTV’s Staying
Alive in 2008 on HIV awareness drama “Not To Me” a film that is still getting hits at www.staying-alive.org.
****
The movie is scheduled to hit MTV Africa, MTV UK, MTV Brazil and other regional
stations on World Aids Day (December 1st 2009) Stay tuned for details on airing schedules on Gayelle TV!
