A poem to Dummit of the Summit - submitted poem
FullName: Choy Felix CompanyName: a poem to Dummit of
the Summit Email: choyfelix@hotmail.com Phone: xxx-xxxx Comments: Drumming to freedom in T& T (A
tribute to drummit to the summit 18th April 2009)
"Beat yuh drums, move
the spirits, silently eco your voice, eventually someone will hear it. Enough is Enough, is time we stand, cause the governments arent doing shit, To help my sweet Trinidad. Beat yuh drums for crime, beat yuh drums
for corruption, beat yuh drums for increase cost of living, beat yuh drums for pollution. Let yuh drums be
heard, across the nation wide, let yuh drums be felt, till our ancestors dance and cry. Eco yuh drums
on the mountain tops, let it rumble across vast seas, let it move through our sprits and souls, may your drums
set us Trinis free. Drums free us from rape, drums free our children to, drums free us from the guns, make
a better life for me and you. Drums motivate the lazy national security personnel, drums touch the soul of our heartless
Prime Minister, drums change the heart of brutal bandits, drums light the Red House fire. Beat yuh drums to
educate, beat yuh drums to motivate, beat yuh drums to instigate, may your drums cause us contemplate. Lets
contemplate on how many children has been gruesomely killed, how many we lost to human trafficking, how many innocent
we lost to senseless murders, how many in the dilapidated hospitals suffering. Beat yuh rhythmic drum Mr.
Drum Man, beat it with passion and national pride, cause though Trinidad appears to be silent, Tens of thousands
are standing by your side. And though they say its a war drum, we know you are beating for peace, to create
change in this tainted democracy, creating a better place in sweet T&T. So beat yuh drum. Beat yuh
drum. Beat yuh drum. We thank you Mr. Drum Man for beating yuh drum. Fantastic
work everyone."
(Thanks Choy)

Come Fly Your Kite! Gayelle Style
When Gayelle arrived at the Queen's Park Savannah for its first ever "Come Fly Your Kite" activity, it seemed
like the whole of Trinidad and Tobago was gathered to participate! The tradition of kite flying was bigger than ever this
year, with hundreds of people arriving in droves to the Savannah to fly their kites.
Picnic blankets, baskets,
cars and families relaxing in the midday sunlight dotted the lush green landscape. Overhead, the shadows of hundreds of kites
drifted languidly on the gentle breeze. The slight wind was kinder to the smaller box kites and colourful plastic kites, however
in some spots the bigger mad bull kites soared, commanding their space in the sky.
The turn out for the Gayelle
Kite Flying activity was small but energetic, with seven contestants bringing forward ten handmade traditional kites for judging.
A contingent from the St. Michael’s School for boys also participated, bringing forward three mad bull kites all decorated
with a Gayelle-Theme. Also a contestant was Mr. Carl Pierre and his grandson Omari Durham. Mr. Pierre brought traditionally
made a corfin, band and box kite which were all successfully mounted into the sky. Also present was Ms Isabella Desormeaux
who brought her 'Trini Box Kite', a three layered box kite of kite paper and bamboo slivers.
Judges were
Uncle Errol Fabien and guest judges Ms Neva Orsuna and Mr. Roshan Ramroop. Despite the lack of strong breeze, the afternoon
was well spent. To see pictures from the activity, click on the Come Fly Your Kite link on the Gayelle Photos Page!
